The spring is upon us yet again and that means rose season is here! At Omniwines we have long championed this seasonal warm weather treat with classic rosati from indigenous Italian grape varieties.
This year we have expanding our selection with a Pinot Noir Rosato from the rolling hills of Lombardia. This first vintage of MILLE (1000) Rosato is made by our friend Jean-Francois Coquard (formerly of Tenuta Mazzolino). JFC, originally from Burgundy, is a Pinot Noir specialist who has spent 15 years making wines in Lombardia using the grape of his homeland.
Here is our 2016 Rosati line up:
Pinot Noir Rosato, IGT, Provincia di Pavia 2015
100% Pinot noir
This wine comes from the rolling hills of southern Lombardia, an area with a long history of quality pinot noir production. The wine is made in the classic method and is clean and elegant with bright, refreshing acidity and soft fruit aromas.
||Molino A Vento
Rosato Terre Siciliane IGT, Sicilia 2015
100% Nero d’Avola
Made from early harvested grapes which are cold macerated for 12 hours. This technique combined with a cold temperature fermentation conserves fresh aromatics and gives a bright colored rosato. Well balanced and liveliness are attributes that made us fall for this amazing value! Perfect summer time sippin’!
|Rosa del Golfo
Rosato del Salento IGT, Puglia 2015
90% Negroamaro, 10% Malvasia Nera
In 1963 the Calo family winery produced its first bottle of Rosato, named Rosa del Golfo, becoming the first producer in Puglia to use stainless steel fermentation tanks. The wine is a bright salmon color with shades of coral and has an intense bouquet of wildflowers. The palate has a silky texture with a ripe red berry finish.
||Barone di Villagrande
Etna Rosato DOC, Sicilia 2014
90% Nerello Mascalese, 10% Carricante
The oldest estate on Etna making traditional wines with organic farming practices. This rosato sees 12-18 hours of skin contact and has a bright salmon color. Dry, elegant and flavorful.
